Editorial Policy

The rules we work to, written down so you can hold us to them.

Independence

Nobody pays for placement on this site. Ever. There are no sponsored picks, no paid reviews, no “partner spotlights”, and no arrangement under which a brand can buy its way onto a list.

Commission rate plays no part in ranking. We earn affiliate commission, and rates vary between products and categories. That variation has never moved a product up or down a list, and it is not a factor we consider when ordering one. Where the cheaper or better option for the reader earns us less, it still wins.

We accept no free product. We do not run a test program, so there is nothing for a brand to send us and no relationship for one to build.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • Every claim about temperature, timing, oil quantity or food safety carries a primary source. If a number cannot be sourced, it does not get published.
  • We cite the primary source, never a content farm or a competing affiliate site.
  • Product specifications come from the manufacturer, not from our estimate.
  • Where authoritative sources disagree — oil-volume method is the usual case — we present the safest guidance and explain why.

The full methodology, including what our picks are and are not based on, is on how we pick.

What we will never publish

  • Fabricated testing. No “we tested 14 models”, no invented protocols, no measurement results we did not take.
  • Invented credentials. No chef training, no certifications, no awards, no years-in-business figure.
  • Customer reviews or star ratings we do not have. The scores on our roundups are our own editorial rubric and are always labeled as such.
  • Prices. Retail prices change daily. Rather than publish a number that will be wrong within a week, we send you to the retailer for the live one.
  • Urgency or scarcity language. No “limited time”, no “selling fast”, no countdown pressure.
  • Stock photography presented as our own work. Our imagery is licensed stock and illustrates the category only.

Corrections policy

If something on this site is wrong, we want to know, and corrections are the first thing we deal with.

  1. Report it through the contact form, with the page and what you believe is incorrect.
  2. We check it against the primary source. If the source has changed, we re-read it.
  3. If we are wrong, we fix it and note on the page that it was corrected. We do not quietly edit an error out of existence.
  4. If the error touches safety — a temperature, a timing, a clearance — it is fixed the same day it is confirmed.

Update cadence

Roundups and comparisons are reviewed annually ahead of the season. Safety guides are reviewed annually and immediately whenever the underlying guidance changes.

A date only moves when the content does. If a page was genuinely re-checked and nothing needed changing, the published date stays where it was. Rolling dates forward to fake freshness is precisely what we are trying not to be.

When a product comes off a list

  • It has been discontinued or is no longer reliably available
  • A pattern of failures appears in owner feedback that was not there before
  • The manufacturer changes the specification materially
  • A safety recall is issued
  • Something genuinely better arrives for the same reader

When a top pick disappears mid-season the page gets re-ranked, not patched with a note. A dead link on a buying guide is a failed page.

Publisher and responsibility

Fryer & Feast is published by Iron Mako Media. Every page carries a single named byline, and that person is accountable for what is on it. There is no anonymous “editorial team” standing between you and a responsible human.
